The Empire (Fallout 4 Main Faction) part 2

VI: History

Part 1: Pre-war roots.

Since De'Saille was a young boy, he dreamed of taking over the world, doing things other nations failed to do. With the world in his hands, he could make it a better place. Everyone treated fairly and given the freedom they deserved. No other leaders to do wrong to their people. All the resources in one land, making sure no one got too much or too little. His teachers had always worried about his seemingly malicious goals, bringing in therapists. After failing to find anything wrong with the child with endless ambition, they gave up. When he reached his later childhood, he began to study on the empires throughout history. The British, the Romans, Napoleon, he knew them all. He was the favorite of his teachers. The European Resource wars started and the United Nations disbanded when he was a teenager. He saw this as a possibility for new empires to rise, and decided to make a career out of his passion. In 2061, he graduated from college, majoring in military history.

He became a professor. He taught at many universities across the US and Canada, teaching on Ivy League staffs at times. In 2066, when the Chinese invaded Alaska, he began to denounce the United States. He often lectured his students on how the U.S, possibly the most powerful nation on Earth allowed their own borders to be invaded in such a manner. At this time, De'Saille was incredibly famous for his lectures, and many students and intellectuals flocked to hear him speak. The United States government saw him as a threat for his speeches, and he was accused of being a communist. Some went as far as to say he was a Chinese spy. His degree was taken away, and he was prohibited from teaching or lecturing at any school again. Students at Brown university staged a protest against the government. This slowly evolved into rioting. Riot control were sent in, and many college students were injured. This news saddened De'Saille, and he moved back to his home country of Canada.

He lived comfortably. He wasn't allowed to teach or give public speeches in U.S territory, but many of his former students traveled to Canada to hear lectures given at community centers. Soon enough, however, the United States looked towards Canada. Canada had already allowed U.S access through Canada to guard the Alaskan pipeline and hold the Anchorage frontlines in 2067. However, in 2072, Canadians began rioting and protesting due to the Americans' pressure on the country. The U.S began annexing the country. At first, De'Saille saw it as a sign that America could possibly become the Empire it should be. However, after witnessing terrible atrocities of the Canadian people at the hands of American soldiers, he protested. He led massive protests in the streets of Toronto. The American occupiers, not yet given orders to break up demonstrations, had to sit by while this happened. The highly intelligent and charismatic De'Saille inspired many people, and he soon had a large following.

In the fall of 2075, one of De'Saille's protests got out of hand after a member of the crowd started burning an American flag. A group of off-duty American soldiers, fresh out of a nearby bar, witnessed this and started violently yelling at the crowd of protesters. In a fit of drunkenness and anger, one of the soldiers pulled out his sidearm and fired into the crowd. Two people were killed before the soldiers were restrained by the mob. One of the protesters picked up the pistol and began firing it into the air. This excited the crowd, and they took to the streets, assaulting American officials and destroying property. The riot raged for 12 hours before riot police and American soldiers controlled the crowd. De'Saille, thought responsible for this, was placed under arrest.

For a while, he was only limited to house arrest. In 2076, when the annexation was complete, most of the American soldiers left to finish up in Alaska. In early 2077, the Americans reclaimed Anchorage and invaded China. Resistance movements started popping up in Canada, many of them praising De'Saille as the "father of Canada." De'Saille, despite not having anything to do with this, was blamed. In the summer of 2077, he was relocated to a prison camp that was miles outside of Toronto.

He endured in the horrid conditions of the camp for months. However, he befriended many Canadian protesters, Asian-Americans accused of being communist, and even a few military prisoners. Once this was apparent, he was moved to a solitary confinement for most of his day. When fall came, more and more troops were needed to invade China. Command of the prison camp eventually fell on Lieutenant Katie Anderson. Anderson herself was against the U.S' cruel policies regarding many things. She was young herself, and was inexperienced. She knew nothing of prison management. In fact, she enlisted in the military as an intelligence specialist. However, due to the need of troops, she was given the responsibility. She gave the prisoners more rights. Their conditions were improved drastically.

Prisoners were allowed to freely move about the camp and enjoy similar comforts as the guards. Most of the guards were reassigned to patrol the city, and the few that remained she ordered to lay off the inmates. She was forewarned of De'Saille. Leave him alone with the prisoners too long, and he could start an uprising. After briefly speaking with him, she saw how intelligent and good with the prisoners he was. She looked to him for assistance and management advice. For several months, Anderson listened to De'Saille's advice, and usually acted upon it. Military-grade equipment and weapons, secured by Anderson, were moved into the camp's storage. The commissary division was severely understaffed and unsupervised in Toronto, so no suspicion was spoken when large amounts of guns and armor were moved into a camp with small amounts of guards.

Anderson was highly suspicious about this, and De'Saille knew that she would be, but she soon found herself somehow attached to the smart, charismatic (and somehow handsome) university professor. One day, she decided to tell him how she felt. De'Saille rejected her, stating that he was too old and dangerous for her. Anderson, angered at his decision, decided to call Captain Prescott, the regional commander. She told him De'Saille had killed three guards with a contraband knife, and needed to be given a trial. De'Saille, shocked, charged her, put his hands around her neck, and nearly strangled her to death. However, in a twist of events, Anderson threw him her storage keycard and told him to start the revolt he'd been planning since day one. Prescott and his Lieutenants were scheduled to arrive and give the trial on October 23rd, and he needed to kill them, so the entire regional command would fall. She would also be here to help him, but she didn't want to be a part of the uprising.

On the night of October 23rd, De'Saille gathered all the prisoners together, and told them he had stolen the warden's armory key. Anderson, as requested, gathered all the guards inside the main building. De'Saille and a few other prisoners gathered all the combat armor and guns they could, and secretly made their way back. The gear was dropped in a secure location, ready to be equipped when Prescott arrived. However, he never came. Several hours into the night, the camp was shook by loud explosions. The prisoners and guards, side by side, watched from the chainlink fence as the barely-visible Toronto skyline was consumed by bright lights and mushroom clouds.

The Atomic bombs and warheads continued for 2 hours, until they suddenly stopped. Some of the inmates and guards collapsed from shock, others began to cry. De'Saille, however, kept a calm head. He ordered the prisoners to arm themselves with the stolen equipment and protect the camp from whatever the nuclear holocaust may have caused. The guards protested, but it was clear that Andrei De'Saille, their most dangerous prisoner, was in charge.

"he moved back to his home country of Canada."
In Fallout, wasn't Canada annexed to the USA?

The annexation began in 2072, and was finished by 2076. This was a bit before that.
